Overview
The theme of the annual Riker Symposium for 2026 is: Male Cancer: A Story of Preparation, Resilience, Triumph. Attendees should be able to integrate the patient experience of resilience with multidisciplinary clinical strategies including early detection, genetic risk assessment, and preventive care to combat the rising incidence of early-onset colorectal and other male-specific cancers.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners should be able to:

  1. Recognize the profound psychological and physical impacts of an early onset cancer diagnosis, and identify how concepts like "movement as medicine" and navigating clinical uncertainty foster patient resilience, preserve identity, and contribute to survivorship.
  2. Analyze the rising rates and atypical presentations of early on set colorectal cancer in younger men to reduce misdiagnosis, overcome age bias in symptom evaluation, and implement timely, lifesaving screening protocols.
  3. Assess the role of family history and hereditary syndromes in early onset male cancers, and understand how to effectively route patients to Riverview's High Risk Clinic and genetic counselors for personalized risk stratification and preventive care.
  4. Combine the lived experience insights of patient advocates with the clinical expertise of oncologists, gastroenterologists, and genetic counselors to create comprehensive care plans that prioritize clinical preparation, accessible screening, and holistic support through treatment and triumph.

Accreditation

Hackensack Meridian Health Network is accredited by the Medical Society of New Jersey to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Hackensack Meridian Health Network designates this live activity for a maximum of 2.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

NJ Board of Nursing (NJAC 13:37-5.3) states: “A registered professional nurse or licensed practical nurse may obtain continuing education hours from the following: (d)3. Successful completion of continuing medical education courses recognized by the American Medical Association, the American Osteopathic Association or the American Podiatric Medical Association: one hour for each 60 minutes of attendance” therefore, CME credits obtained today may be used in place of nursing contact hours.
